IMO/IHO S52 ECS or ECDIS electronic chart systems depends on two types of licences:

  • UserPermit is a hexa number given to you by your ECS/ECDIS provider. It is a unique  identifier computed from hardware information  in your computer and your ECS/ECDIS program provider. When you order charts you must tell the chart provider your UserPermit. No USB key is necessary for only one installation.  If you want to install Capella and your charts on up to 4 more computers, and you want only one UserPermit, we can make  USB keys burned with your UserPermit for you. Up to five installations are accepted onboard ships by IMO/IHO authorities .
  • CellPermit is a hexa number you receive from your chart provider when you order and pay for S57 charts. Each cell is given a number, based on your UserPermit, and which reflects the ECS/ECDIS installation. Up to 5 computers can use the same charts as long as all computers are installed onboard the same vessel.
